‘GOOD’ on the West End: David Tenant returns to the stage
The exceptionally talented and popular British actor David Tenant has announced his return to the stage in dramatic fashion this year. The former Dr Who and Harry Potter star will make his West End return by featuring in the production of C.P. Taylor’s acclaimed play, GOOD. Olivier Award-winning director Dominic Cooke offers his unique takes on one of Britain’s most popular political dramas. Let’s take a look at what you can expect from this West End masterpiece.
What we can expect from GOOD
GOOD is scheduled to play at the Harold Pinter Theatre from October to December. The play tells the story of John Halder, a good man who must adapt to survive the times. Written by Cecil Philip Taylor, John Halder’s story is one of a decent, intelligent man who gets caught up in a multitude of life’s challenges. In the lead-up to the start of WWII, Halder finds himself swept up in a movement that could lead to unspeakable consequences. But how does he adapt to the changing world around him? That’s what we discover throughout the production of GOOD.
The show will be the first stage production for Dominic Cooke and Kate Horton’s company, Fictionhouse. Given the turmoil and political instability that our country is currently facing, it’s well worth grabbing your tickets to see this exceptionally powerful British political play at a time when the world was falling apart. Tenant is brilliant as John Halder, and it’s a story that transcends the times.
David Tenant in the leading role
GOOD was initially scheduled to play at the Playhouse Theatre in 2020, but it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, GOOD will arrive in the West End for a limited run between October 6 and December 24, 2022. The political play is a unique opportunity to experience the drama of the West End and enjoy a leading role played by one of the best-loved British actors of our generation.
Scottish-born David Tenant has had a successful career in TV and film, playing the titular role in Doctor Who from 2005-2010. He has also starred in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and appeared on Netflix and Amazon Prime dramas in recent years. His TV and film credentials are extremely impressive, and we’re delighted to hear that he will be returning to the stage before 2022 is out.
His theatrical performances in the past have been as impressive as his appearances on the big and small screens. He was renowned for his role in a 2008 RSC production of Hamlet and has played various other stage roles with distinction. Such is his versatility as an actor; Tenant has also developed a reputation for being an outstanding voice actor, with credits in Ferdinand and Final Space, among others.
Ultimately, there are so many shows to look forward to this year playing in London’s West End, but GOOD is one that you can’t afford to miss! What’s more, given its limited initial run, you should snap up your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. While David Tennant has been announced in the leading role, we will soon be introduced to the remaining cast members. So, book your tickets to see GOOD at the Harold Pinter Theatre in the lead-up to Christmas 2022.
